Reflections: Power over self, Facilitators v/s Gurus

Andrea Ramirez Fortuna Living Spiritual Coaching

Today I felt like reflecting on the concept of being a facilitator.

When we start our path of self-discovery we are constantly looking for that person or teacher or guru that will give us the answers we are looking for. Unfortunately, many people get lost or hooked in the teachings or philosophies of people who call themselves gurus or masters of one or the other. Some even call themselves prophets or incarnations of deities.

Sometimes we find that teacher we learn what we need to learn at that moment in time and later we feel orphaned when we don´t seem to find another person to learn from.
I believe that the most important thing a teacher or master or guru should teach is self-discovery and self-reliance in the form of learning to look inside ourselves, listen to our intuition and truly go through our emotions in a loving yet intelligent way.

Most of the time the people we follow don´t give us all we need but what they need for us to keep on coming back to them. So although this is not the norm with the big names in the game, many others use and teach power over others instead of power over self.
Elizabeth Peru explains this beautifully, power over others is almost directly in relation to powerlessness over ourselves as we give our power to that outside person/belief and we render ourselves handicapped to find the power within ourselves.

Similiar I would dare to say, as to how it works in religions. The power of creation and unconditional love exists outside of ourselves and we are unworthy of accessing it if we don’t comply with certain rules or discipline.

When we have the power of self, we don’t depend on the outside circumstances or teachings, but we can filter in an assertive way what we are receiving from the other ( called master, teacher, or guru)

Guru means bringing from darkness to light. And we should be the ones to bring ourselves from our darkness to our light by learning techniques and acquiring tools that will bring value and consistency to our lives.

Hence the facilitators. Teachers, gurus, masters, and ourselves should learn to become facilitators of tools and techniques that will help us learn, grow, heal and ultimately light our path with the light that comes from within. Walking the path with our eyes open instead of running our lives with our eyes closed, as Simon Sinek said in his book “Start with Why”.

Let´s learn and continue searching in our path for meaning, happiness, and healing but always with our eyes and consciousness open to receive the information we are meant to receive and realize when the person we are receiving this information is a facilitator :
someone who will bring you tools and information for you to grow in your path…
OR: a self-proclaimed guru or master that will keep you dependant on their teachings and information, saying they own the right way or truth.

See the red flags and just take whatever serves you of any situation you go through.

I enjoy sharing these little reflections ,and I am hoping you enjoy them too.
Have a happy day!
